About Tiger Safari in Kanha Tour

Dunbar Brander, a distinguished figure among the Indian naturalist-hunters of the previous century, once wrote, “In 1908, the region held an abundance of wildlife, rivaling the best parts of Africa. I recall an evening stroll where I encountered 1500 individuals across 11 different species.” While the numbers have sadly dwindled, Kanha’s enchantment defies all conventional wisdom and statistical analysis.

Kanha also boasts India’s inaugural triumph in wildlife conservation—the revival of the Hard Ground Swamp Deer, also known as Barasingha. From a mere 55 individuals in 1965, their population has swelled to over 800 today. Notably, Kanha played a pivotal role in bolstering the Gaur population in Bandhavgarh. Around a decade ago, Kanha generously contributed around 50 Gaur to Bandhavgarh National Park, restoring their presence in their native habitat. As a result, Bandhavgarh’s Gaur population now thrives, thanks to Kanha’s benevolence. Subsequently, tigers have been relocated to Panna and, more recently, to the Satkosia Tiger Reserve in Orissa to replenish the tiger population within the reserve. This remarkable achievement underscores Kanha’s exceptional management of tourism and its unwavering commitment to conservation, setting a shining example when compared to other national parks in India.
